October 24, 2008 – Applications Being Accepted for New Product And Process Fair

Entrepreneurs young and old alike are invited to enter the New Product and Process Fair to be held December 5 at the Wes Watkins Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University, Stillwater. The application deadline is November 16. Official rules and regulations are available in a clear, easy-to-navigate format at www.newproductsfair.com.

For over 20 years, the New Product and Process Fair has been the launching pad for new products and processes. Fair founder and former Congressman Wes Watkins says the annual event is designed to challenge the creativity and inventiveness of people of all ages.

There are six divisions of competition: Elementary Student (grades 3-6), Secondary Student (grades 7-12) Adult Student (enrolled in one of Oklahoma’s Technology Centers), Collegiate Student (Oklahoma college students, undergraduate or graduate status) Small Business (currently producing and/or selling a product or process), and Open Class (entrants not qualifying in the other divisions). The top 300 entrants will be invited to display their prototypes at the Fair and will compete for $11,700 in cash prizes.

Entries are judged by a panel of judges selected by Fair sponsors. All entries will be judged on innovation, presentation and potential for commercialization.

In a message to entrepreneurs, Watkins said, “We established this annual event to challenge the creativity and inventiveness of your mind to envision new products. Our intellectual innovations which might lead to a new product, are the seeds of economic prosperity that lead to job development and potential new business and industry. Please deliver up the result of your creative thinking with an entry of a new product or process that can be judged and evaluated in this year’s Fair. Our country’s rich history and prosperity has been spurred by the inventions and ideas from individuals just like you.”

Fair sponsors are Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology and Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma (REI), a non-profit economic development firm assisting Oklahoma entrepreneurs statewide.
