December 21, 2009 – Tom Seth Smith Honored For 20 Years of Service With REI

Tom Seth Smith, President & CEO, Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc. (REI) was recognized for 20 years of success and service at the December Board of Directors meeting. When Smith took the helm of the organization in 1989, it was known as Rural Enterprises Incorporated. Seven years later when REI services became statewide, the name was changed to reflect the expanded service area. Over Smith’s 20-years of service, the organization’s funding has increased by 250 percent. A lot of other things also changed under Smith’s leadership. December 14, 2009 – Combined Financing Pushes Convenience Store To New location With Expanded Services

With the help of Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc. (REI) and First United Bank & Trust, Durant, what was once Jiffy Mart is now the new and expanded Push ‘Em Station on Highway 70 which is double the size of the old Jiffy Mart that Donny Simmons operated since 1984. The store is situated roughly 5 miles from Durant and 5 miles from Lake Texhoma. Simmons had purchased the 33-acre property adjacent to Jiffy Mart 10 years ago in anticipation of the two-lane highway becoming a four-lane highway. The small rural southeast Oklahoma town of Bennington is the home of a new business. Rick’s Airboats located into the community’s business incubator to manufacture airboats. Business owners are Rick and Clanton Raney and Bryon and Misty Underwood. Katherine E. Faison has joined Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc. (REI) as a loan officer at REI’s Oklahoma City office. Three area businesses were among recipients of awards during Oklahoma Minority Enterprise Development Week. The award recipients participated in a celebration of the success held at the Metro Technology Center, Oklahoma City. The event was coordinated by the Native American Business Enterprise Center (NABEC) of Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc. (REI).
