Rural Americans make up about 20 25 percent of the nations population but only nine percent of the nations physicians practice in rural areas, according to the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality. Durant is putting those statistics to the test because it has excellent diversified health care services and because of expansions like the one currently underway at the Sturch Family Clinic on 1727 Chuckwa, near the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma.
The 4,290 sq. ft. expansion project is being accomplished through utilization of the SBA 504 lending program administered by Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc. (REI) in partnership with First United Bank & Trust, Durant.
REI partners with Oklahoma banks across the state, but theres nothing like partnering with a bank in your hometown and when the project is also in your hometown, that makes it doubly exciting. Tom Seth Smith, President & CEO said.
When the Sturch Family Clinic moves next door into its new facilities, another health care provider will move into the old facility. The new medical clinic will have 9 patient rooms, one procedure room, three nurses stations, reception area, business office, laboratory and several offices. The expansion will also allow for two more providers, further increasing access to health care for area citizens.
Durant native, Dr. Christopher Sturch, opened the clinic in 2003. After receiving his doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College Of Medicine, Dr. Sturch served at the Atoka Memorial Hospital and later was associated with the former Engles Clinic, SE Multispecialty Group.
When Dr. Sturch opened his practice, he was able to launch it with an experienced staff from the long-time Engles Clinic. Evelyn Goss, manager, Joyce Young, nurse and Bonnie Delashaw, office assistant, all joined the Sturch Family Clinic and six years later, patients are still enjoying the family-friendly atmosphere they create in the waiting room and in the office.
Construction projects are always challenging but REI and First United have been there for us all the way, said Dr. Sturch. Were very excited about being able to expand our facilities so we can serve more people with the health care they need and deserve.
