September 18, 2008 – REI Officials Prepare To Step Into Stilettos For March of Dimes

Tom Seth Smith, REI President & CEO and Kenny Simpson, Executive Vice President prepare to step into Stilettos for REI’s March of Dimes campaign, the Stiletto Sprint. The one with the least amount of money raised will slip into high heels on Friday, September 26 to start the race.

If you want to see the President & CEO in Stilettos the day of the race, you will want to donate money to the “Kenny Simpson jar” and vice versa. Simply stop by REI headquarters at 2912 Enterprise Blvd. to make your donation. You may also call 800-658-2823 or 924-5094 to make a donation or pledge.

Registration is still open for those wanting to participate in the Sprint. Contestants may register on line at www.ruralenterprises.com or register the day of the event at 11:45 a.m. The race begins at 12:15 p.m. Entry fee for the 50-yard sprint is $5, including lunch. Non-participants are invited to cheer on the Stiletto sprinters and enjoy lunch for $6. Lots of prizes are a part of the event and a brief awards presentation will be held following lunch.

Stiletto Sprint participants include local news anchors, bank representatives, local attorney, community service groups and mothers who have benefited from the March of Dimes.

A Silent Auction featuring products and services for women is also part of REI’s March of Dimes event. Local businesses have donated gift certificates for pedicures, Pampered Chef items, jewelry and much more.

“I’m depending on your generous contributions to my jar so we can all watch Kenny prance around in Stilettos on September 26,” said Smith. “Of course, the bottom line is to raise money for this very worthwhile cause and to have fun while we’re doing it.”

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. The organization works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

REI is a statewide economic development firm headquartered in Durant with offices in Alva, Lawton, Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
